Descripción

What is it?

Nature and rurality

The  Anaga Biofest  is an invitation to feel part of the  Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve  and everything it represents. Come and experience a balanced experience of nature and rurality. A unique territory awaits you, with singular biodiversity and an ethnographic richness that excites and connects.

After four editions, the Anaga Biofest has established itself as a comprehensive project that goes beyond the cultural sphere: it is a platform for territorial regeneration, where culture, education, and nature intertwine to nurture and strengthen the ties between people and their environment. The festival’s essence is kept alive, highlighting the values associated with the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve. It offers an alternative way to put into practice what  regenerative travel entails,  in balance with the environmental and sociocultural environment. Not only that, but it also strives to leave a  positive impact on the region , restoring spaces and supporting the local economy.

A comprehensive action plan and a complete program of activities offer a variety of initiatives, activities, and experiences throughout the year. All under the umbrella of Anaga Biofest, with a cross-cutting approach to territorial management, allowing you to discover a  balanced cultural landscape , based on a  unique natural environment .

ETHNOGRAPHIC IMMERSION IN THE FUERTEVENTURA BIOSPHERE RESERVE:

As part of its fifth edition, Anagfa Biofest extends its twinning network to the  Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve , reinforcing its commitment to connecting the territories covered by this declaration.

On  September 6 and 7 , the festival arrives on the island of Fuerteventura with a range of activities deeply linked to the  territory’s cultural and natural identity  . Highlighting this event is the celebration of the  ancient tradition of «apañadas ,» recently declared a Site of Cultural Interest. This event will allow attendees to experience firsthand this ancient livestock practice, a key part of the island’s way of life.

The weekend concludes with  an interpretive hiking trail linked to the biodiversity of this area and a birdwatching activity , where you can learn about the local birdlife and its relationship with land use and the landscape.

These activities, carried out in collaboration with  local producers, ranchers, artisans, and guides , mark the beginning of a  new alliance between the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve and Fuerteventura , expanding the festival’s reach and promoting new synergies from a regenerative perspective.

[September 7] In search of the Canary Island stonechat in the Río Cabras ravine

This guided birdwatching route invites us to discover Fuerteventura’s biodiversity through birdwatching, paying special attention to the Canary Island stonechat (Saxicola dacotiae), an endemic species that only lives on this island.

The activity will take place in the Río Cabras ravine, an arid but vibrant environment located in Tesjuate, inland. Afterward, the activity will include a visit to the Verde Aurora Bio Farm bird reserve, a space dedicated to nature conservation, organic farming, sustainability, and Fuerteventura traditions.

During the tour, we’ll discuss the importance of conserving natural habitats, the role of birds as bioindicators, and the threats facing species like the stonechat, which are particularly sensitive to territorial changes and human activity. We’ll also observe other species native to semi-arid areas and reflect on Fuerteventura’s natural wealth and the need to protect it.

An activity designed to foster respect for the environment and bring the public closer to the ecological values that make Fuerteventura a unique place.
