What is it?
Nature and rurality
The Anaga Biofest is an invitation to feel part of the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve and everything it represents. Come and experience a balanced experience of nature and rurality. A unique territory awaits you, with singular biodiversity and an ethnographic richness that excites and connects.
After four editions, the Anaga Biofest has established itself as a comprehensive project that goes beyond the cultural sphere: it is a platform for territorial regeneration, where culture, education, and nature intertwine to nurture and strengthen the ties between people and their environment. The festival’s essence is kept alive, highlighting the values associated with the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve. It offers an alternative way to put into practice what regenerative travel entails, in balance with the environmental and sociocultural environment. Not only that, but it also strives to leave a positive impact on the region , restoring spaces and supporting the local economy.
A comprehensive action plan and a complete program of activities offer a variety of initiatives, activities, and experiences throughout the year. All under the umbrella of Anaga Biofest, with a cross-cutting approach to territorial management, allowing you to discover a balanced cultural landscape , based on a unique natural environment .
The 5th edition of Anaga Biofest will be held in 2025, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the declaration of the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve, as well as the 20th anniversary of the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve.
For this reason, the festival seeks to highlight the coincidence of these three events with activities in new locations in the Gran Canaria Reserve , expanding the territorial scope of the project and encouraging the involvement of new local stakeholders from both territories. Thus, on October 4 and 5 , Biofest celebrates a weekend of hiking, ethnography, and gastronomy , with two interpretive routes focused on rural heritage, wine culture, and astronomy , connecting the landscapes of the island’s interior with its southwestern side.
On Saturday, a walking tour will take place between Barranquillo Andrés and Mogán , which will allow visitors to discover old mountain paths, including a tasting of local products .
On Sunday, the program continues with a tour along the historic Camino de la Plata to the town of Tunte, followed by a visit to the Las Tirajanas Winery with an explanation of the winemaking process and a tasting of local wines and oils . The day concludes with a heritage walk through Tunte , highlighting the town’s history and traditional architecture.
All of these activities are being carried out in coordination with local initiatives from both Biosphere Reserves, consolidating the inter-island twinning promoted by the Anaga Biofest since 2022 and reinforcing the festival’s role as a meeting place for different territories.
[October 4 and 5] Hiking, ethnography, and gastronomy weekend in the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve
Saturday, October 4 – Ethnographic route through the midlands of Gran Canaria: from Barranquillo de San Andrés to Mogán
A trail between the Barranquillo de San Andrés and the town of Mogán, passing through landscapes marked by terraces, ancient paths, and traditional crops. This is an opportunity to learn about the area’s rural and ethnographic heritage, with the participation of local experts, and to explore their connection to the region. Upon arrival in Mogán, the group will have time for a free lunch before transferring to El Garañón Camp.
During the afternoon and evening at the camp, there will be social activities, a communal dinner, and astronomical observation with a certified Starlight Guide.
Sunday, October 5 – The Silver Route of Gran Canaria: between Llanos de Pez and Tunte
After breakfast at El Garañón, the second activity of the weekend will begin. Starting from the camp itself, you’ll follow a section of the historic Silver Route, which connects the island’s rugged interior with its northern and southern slopes and was for centuries an essential communication route for merchants, shepherds, and farmers.
Following this path, steeped in history, you’ll reach the village of Tunte, where you’ll visit a local winery and learn firsthand about the winemaking process, which you can enjoy paired with other local products.
Afterward, a cultural tour will allow you to discover iconic sites in this unique town. The day will conclude with a group farewell and a return transfer to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
