Historic Paths Along the Thread of Canarian Wrestling
The trails connecting El Batán and Tegueste have served as routes of communication, exchange, and gathering for their inhabitants for centuries. This route offers a chance to explore them from a different perspective, guided by the thread of Canarian wrestling (lucha canaria), one of the most representative elements of the cultural heritage and identity of the Canary Islands.
Throughout the journey, participants will discover how this traditional sport has been an integral part of the social life in the hamlets and villages of Anaga, forging bonds across generations and strengthening the sense of community. The activity will highlight Tegueste‘s role as a major historical landmark for Canarian wrestling, alongside the close relationship that hamlets like El Batán—the birthplace of renowned wrestlers—have maintained with a sport so deeply rooted in the territory.
This visually stunning route will help participants understand how Canarian wrestling transcends the sporting sphere to become a living expression of the history, values, and identity of rural communities. It is a journey to discover the region through the stories of those who found in la brega (the wrestling bout) a space for connection, belonging, and cultural transmission.

Recommendations
- For the route, we recommend bringing a 1-liter reusable water bottle, hiking clothes and a rain jacket, sunscreen (face and lip balm), and comfortable footwear.
